Kenbrena Activity C

The combination of money for investments, skilled people, and abundant resources from nature can make a country stable and wealthy.  Let's look at where the wealth is in Kenbrena!  

Physical and Economic Activity 1:

There is great mineral wealth in the western mountain ranges, particularly in the southwestern ranges. Much coal is found in the northeastern ranges. Petroleum is found primarily in the south and southwest. Petroleum is also found to some extent in the northeast and the far northwest.

 

1. Which map would you probably use to locate what the information above tells you? Why?

2. Make a mineral KEY on the map you chose for question # 1. Use only the minerals indicated in the information provided. (You may wish to copy the map into a painting program to produce a digital image.)

3. Use the symbol from the KEY and show the location of the minerals on the map.

 

Physical and Economic Activity 2:

 

The central plains is the major grain farming region; the north is heavily forested. Major CASH CROPS are found along the east coast. TRUCK FARMING is extensive in the far south, far west, and southeast.

1. Use same map as Activity C-I. Mark in your KEY symbols for: 

  • GRAIN AREA

  • FORESTED AREA

  • CASH CROPS and

  • TRUCK FARMING.

2. Place these symbols on the map according to information provided.
 

3.  By comparing the areas of cash crops to areas where there is truck farming, can you tell which regions might be more wealthy in Kenbrena?

 

4. In which areas do the farm products give cities food to eat?

  

Physical and Economic Activity 3:

Industry is concentrated in the three major population regions of the northeast. Some industry is developing in the south central area of the continent of Kenbrena.

1. Study map #3. How would you be able to find the three major population regions of the northeast?

2. What fuel would probably be used to run these industries according to the information given in the physical and economic data?

3. What are the approximate latitudes of the three major population areas?

4. What group of people would probably be in charge of the industries? Explain. 

5.  What group(s) of people would probably be the source of manual labor for the industries?  Explain.
