Welcome to Brainwaves, the TAS e-learning playground.
The internet can be a powerful tool for learning. Children love the interaction, the visuals, and the creative options for personalizing their learning. However it is a daunting task to find sites appropriate for children. Our LS IT coordinator, Patty Sloan, researched and found trusted sites that have valuable opportunities for developing reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. You can also find links to each grade level's math and science curriculum sites. Like most parents, you probably have rules for how long your children can watch TV or play video games, what movies they can see and what foods they can eat. We make these rules to give them safe boundaries and teach them about self control. Internet usage is no different. Though the sites here are educational, time spent using these sites should be carefully monitored. Playing on the internet should not take the place of physical activity or you and your child reading together.
Enjoy BRAINWAVES! Your child can have fun while:
- Practicing listening and speaking in English
- Listening to stories read to you by famous celebrities
- Working on phonics, spelling and vocabulary skills
- Developing reading comprehension skills
- Practicing their writing skills as they post on their blogs (Grades 1 and 2)
- Reinforcing their math skills with the Math Connects website
- Supporting their science understanding and vocabulary with the FOSS website
Enjoy,
Carrie Tenebrini,
Lower School Language Arts Coordinator
